Melbourne producer Tobiahs Fakhri knows the value of a knockout vocal hook. He often plucks them from relative obscurity, but the effect is always spot-on. Fakhri even recruited his 15-year-old sister to sing on his 2017 debut single, “Through to You,” released when he was just 18 himself. For 2019’s “Late Night,” he tapped Gold Coast artist DVNA for an airy turn that glides gorgeously through the house-inflected track.

Sampling—and notably speeding up—a trippy track by Atlanta producer NOT THE TWOS, his 2024 single “Lifetime” became a platinum-selling dance hit in Australia. It’s easy to hear why, between its uncanny hook and mounting velocity. Fakhri is also a devoted student of American R&B, enlisting Public Announcement’s Feloney Davis to rerecord his sampled vocal part for 2025’s “Alone” and accelerating a key refrain from Monica’s 1998 ballad “The Boy Is Mine” for his ARIA-nominated banger “Angel of Mine.”
