It's hard to resist a man who wears his heart on his sleeve—or, in Adamo's case, belts it from the depths of his diaphragm. Born in Italy and raised in Belgium, he got his start in the mid-'60s as a baby-faced, cabaret-inflected, multilingual Casanova who sang with unabashed amorous emotion. As he matured, Adamo's inspirations grew more topical, encompassing social issues; a half-century into his career, his hair may have acquired more silver and his voice more grit, but he still sings of love, life, and liberty with gusto (and a soaring string section).
