Close creative symbiosis is inherent to alt-pop duo BROODS, whose Auckland siblings Georgia and Caleb Nott have been performing together since their childhood in a wider musical family. With Georgia singing lead and Caleb juggling instruments, the two broke out as a commercial duo after being judged in a teen music competition by producer Joel Little (Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons), who even suggested their eventual band name. Since their 2014 debut single “Bridges,” the pair have only honed their natural talent for inviting beats and soaring choruses. They scored an early champion in Lorde, who co-wrote their emotionally urgent 2017 track “Heartlines” with the duo and Little. The Notts deepened their pool of co-writers and producers on 2019’s Don’t Feed the Pop Monster, teaming with Tommy English on the intricately structured “Peach” and Annika Wells and Jesse Shatkin on the joyous junkyard pop of “Everything Goes (Wow).” That collaborative spirit has also extended to joint work with Troye Sivan, Whethan, and Flight Facilities, while Swedish singer Tove Lo guests on 2022’s “I Keep,” which boasts one of BROODS’ most hypnotic choruses in a long line of them.
