A driving force in Chinese EDM, Shanghai producer CORSAK creates uniquely melodic dance music that blends warm instrumental layers with heavy beats. He’s created a diverse New Year playlist for Apple Music, featuring old and new tracks from around the world. “These are the songs that would be playing in my ear during New Year when I was growing up,” he tells Apple Music. “They’re part of my memories. But if Lunar New Year has a theme song for 2020, it would be Baoshi Gem’s ‘Wild Wolf Disco.’” For CORSAK, food might be the only New Year tradition more important than music. When he was a child, his family would always spend it at his grandmother’s house. “While my parents were busy helping to prepare our dinner, I’d sneak away to flip through picture books in my grandpa’s study,” he says. “My grandma is from Nanjing, so she makes eight-treasure duck every year. But we’ll also have Shanghai dishes, like sixi kaofu, potato salad, and red braised meatballs.” CORSAK has selected a single Chinese character, “xi” (“happiness”), as his New Year blessing: “Whether it’s a wish for good fortune or health for your whole family, in the end, it all comes down to happiness.”
