Although astrology rather than astronomy informed Gustav Holst’s most famous work, The Planets, each movement evokes the majesty and mystery of our solar system in dramatic and vivid music. And while it remains an indisputable landmark of repertoire exploring humankind’s fascination with worlds beyond our own, many composers before and since Holst have taken inspiration from the night sky, from asteroids and planetary moons to the sun and space exploration itself.
