Signing with the acclaimed label Awakening Music while still a teen, Harris J. emerged in the 2010s as one of Islamic music’s most promising talents. The immensely popular “Salam Alaikum” from his 2015 debut album Salam wrapped uplifting messages of love and peace into a singalong pop anthem. The artist’s reflective songs of faith mix key-laden melodies and uptempo electronic beats drawing on pop, R&B and hip-hop. He collaborates with the likes of Saif Adam and Jae Deen—and, on a swaying live cover of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”, dabbles in pop-reggae.
