Established by Nickelodeon in 2009 as both the cast of an eponymous show in which they played a fictional version of themselves and a real-life boy band, Big Time Rush quickly developed a decidedly real following with their polished, kid-friendly pop songs. “Til I Forget About You,” their debut single, announced the group with a glut of hooks, a danceable beat, and a shout-along-ready earworm chorus; its follow-up, the glitchy, futuristic “Boyfriend,” became the group’s biggest single, with an assist (on the remix, at least) from Snoop Dogg.
Their platinum debut album BTR was followed by Elevate, which had a more pop-rock sound thanks to producer Ryan Tedder. “Windows Down,” a rowdy song that samples Blur’s “Song 2,” was the record’s biggest pop crossover, but the success of upbeat confections like “Love Me Love Me” and “Time of Our Life” proved Big Time Rush’s continued resonance with kids. The group took a hiatus from 2014 to 2021, and since reuniting have released singles with a more mature, club-ready sound, like “Can’t Get Enough,” “Waves,” and “Only One.”
