German conductor and composer Sven Helbig has spent much of his career bridging classical and electronic music. In 1996 he cofounded the Dresden Symphony Orchestra to perform contemporary music, departing in 2007 to focus on compositional efforts. Helbig has seamlessly toggled between symphonic and electronic language; he's recorded many of his tuneful, delicate vignettes both orchestrally and, showing his pop sensibilities, in stripped-down electro-pop fashion as heard on pieces like “Autumn Song” and “Gone.” His “Tres Momentos” injects abstract electronic noise and beats beneath three gorgeously arranged, tempestuous orchestral movements.
