Fusing riot grrrl principles and scrappiness with the sleek aesthetics of electronic music, Le Tigre's 1999 debut was a revelation: politicised tunes that felt at home on dance floors. Alongside bandmates Johanna Fateman and Sadie Benning (later replaced by JD Samson), ex-Bikini Kill frontwoman Kathleen Hanna drew on her DIY punk roots and employed the samplers and synths central to male-dominated DJ culture with electrifying results.
