Cold War Kids' exhilarating indie rock gets its raucous spirit from straight-ahead, hammering percussion mixed with singer Nathan Willett's soulful vocals, which are reminiscent of The Killers' Brandon Flowers. The California quintet's energy level doesn't often dip below 11 on their distinctly rambunctious, keys-heavy tracks, but every once in a while they pull back and slow things down, replacing big, impassioned choruses with subtle rhythms and jangly guitar riffs. These are the their most vital tracks, from rollicking rave-ups to groovy toe-tappers.
