Kingdon Chapple-Wilson, aka Auckland’s Kings, emerged on an energetic high, following up his 2017 debut album, Chapter One, with two more in 2018—Two and LOV3 & 3GO. A largely self-contained artist, Kings writes, produces, mixes, and masters the majority of his material; when he sings “Messing with my flex be a problem” in “Flex,” he’s referencing his unrelenting drive for creating music. His earliest output (the summery “Don’t Worry ’Bout It”) is an amalgam of electro-pop and hip-hop, while he moves from the 808-heavy “6 Figures” and the Timbaland-inspired “Flex” (which also incorporates a Latino touch) to the roots pop of “Temporary Me” and light indie pop of “Floating.”
