LADIES' CODE's early singles mixed swing and jazz sounds with electro-pop sass. “Pretty Pretty” and the moodier “Hate You” showcased a quintet in the vein of Brown Eyed Girls and Wonder Girls, with sophisticated songwriting, big voices, and loads of personality. But after a 2014 car accident claimed the lives of two members, the group took a two-year hiatus. They returned as a trio, with a sound taking cues from jazz's loose, improvisatory side, along with nods to trip-hop and R&B. Their music has become mature, but their voices are just as captivating.
