The best thing to come from Idaho since the potato, Built to Spill were founded in 1992 by former Treepeople guitarist/vocalist Doug Martsch. After a pair of critically acclaimed releases on Up and C/Z Records, they signed to Warner Brothers for 1997's Perfect From Now On, an album of bouncy pop songs that turn into raging guitar epics and then back again, which established the band as VIPs of indie rock. Despite an ever-changing lineup, after more than 20 years Built to Spill show no signs of slowing—good news for those addicted to Martsch's loopy guitar and tenor yelp.
