This is a chance to hear both the big-screen and concert music of three great Italian film composers: Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, and Nicola Piovani. Morricone’s magical music to The Mission is an intriguing contrast to his experimental serialist masterpiece “Musica per 11 violini.” Rota’s Concerto per archi, however, is more akin to his film work with its drama and drive, while “Il canto dei neutrini” by Piovani, famous for his score to Life is Beautiful (La vita è bella), is a brilliant nod to Shostakovich in its description of subatomic particles.
