Album - Blues, Music, Electric Blues, Rock, Hard Rock, Contemporary Blues, Blues-Rock, Arena Rock
Though it’s in the tradition of Super Session—a 1968 album featuring Stephen Stills, Electric Flag’s Barry Goldberg, Al Kooper, and the late Michael Bloomfield—the best moments on Can’t Get Enough by The Rides (the new trio of Stills, Goldberg, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd) are the covers. Is Stills mending fences or instigating new rivalries with this strong interpretation of Neil Young’s “Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World”? Whatever the case, that track—along with a take on Muddy Waters’ “Honey Bee”—are the predictable moments gone right, while the wild-card cover of Iggy & The Stooges’ “Search and Destroy” is both unexpected and surprisingly dead-on in spirit and in execution. Times surely have changed when Stephen Stills is covering Iggy Pop. The originals here stick closer to the usual blues formula and should appeal mostly to Shepherd fans and hardcore blues enthusiasts.
