The World in Your Eyes (2009 Remastered Edition)
Album - Alternative, Music
The World in Your Eyes collects Loop's early 12" singles, its EPs, stray compilation tracks, and rare demos. In many aspects, it's the best way to hear the group. It encompasses Loop's career and features the band stretching out and experimenting even more than on its proper albums. The 16 Dreams 12" features the earliest incarnation of the group, with original drummer Beki "Bex" Stewart challenging The Velvet Underground's Maureen Tucker for most primitive pounder; the near-10-minute "Burning World" simulates a throbbing headache while Robert Hampson twiddles with the amp knobs, finding more feedback at every twist. The EPs Spinning, Collision, and Black Sun show evolution but remain true to Hampson's obscure roots, with a 1988 cover of Can's "Mother Sky" introducing a new generation to the German Krautrockers. Most excitedly, this collection rescues Loop's Nick Drake cover ("Pink Moon") and its Neil Young cover ("Cinnamon Girl"), which had appeared on tribute albums to those artists.
