Gucci’s fourth album (and first on a major label) is full of dark but playful productions and charismatic rhymes in the rising East Atlanta trap hero’s commanding drawl—plus lots of “yyyyeeeah” ad-libs. He’s at his best with Zaytoven, whose futuristic synths and slow, pounding percussion create the perfect backdrop for Gucci’s half-time raps on “Bird Flu.” “I count a hundred gran, den I ate sum cereal,” he spits on the spacey, trunk-rattling “I’m Cool,” a perfect encapsulation of his seemingly effortless appeal.
