Biografia do artista
b. 5 April 1946, South Woodford, Essex, England. Guitar and keyboard player Coppin has, for most of his life, lived in Gloucestershire, a county that has influenced his songwriting. He was formerly a member of the folk rock group Decameron, which played contemporary songs mainly composed by Coppin and fellow member Dave Bell. Coppin went solo when Decameron split in 1976. He soon established himself as a songwriter of quality, releasing his first solo album in 1978, and setting up Red Sky Records in 1984. He also recorded two albums with a strong Cotswold theme, by setting to music the poems of a number of Gloucestershire writers of note, including John Drinkwater, Frank Mansell, Laurie Lee and others, followed by a spin-off BBC show and companion book. A third album on a similar theme, Edge Of Day, was released in 1989. This was both a tribute to, and a collaboration with, the writer Laurie Lee. In 1990, Coppin was involved in an unlikely collaboration with the band of the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment. Force Of The River was the first collection of his own songs for several years. In 1996, he teamed up with his colleagues in Decameron for the first of an ongoing series of reunion concerts. The following year he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education in recognition of his contribution to the cultural life of the county.
Coppin is continually touring, having played all over the world, and has featured regularly on television and radio in connection with his work. His fine clear voice has appeal beyond the boundaries of a folk audience.
