_by.ALEXANDER is a modern jazz side project of Grammy-winning, best-selling L.A.-based producer and label boss Alexander Grant -- aka Alex da Kid -- who launched the endeavor in 2020, along with a fashion line of the same name. Its sound is elegant, melodic, warm, and timeless with a hybrid jazz approach that weds a contemporary piano trio, occasional vocals, emotionally resonant neo-soul, and rhythms from a trap kit, samples, loops, and dance music channeled through jazz, hip-hop, and R&B. 2020's 000 Channel Black included rapper/singer 070 Shake, soul singer and songwriter Tanerélle, and actress/songwriter Rainsford (Rainey Qualley) as guests, and was distributed by Blue Note.
