The Indonesian singer-songwriter first found success in the ‘90s with titanic rock band Dewa 19, but the new millennium brought change as he left the group to focus on recovering from personal demons that had brought him to the brink in 2001. A smash-hit collaboration with Melly Goeslaw saw Ari Lasso step into the spotlight once again, and Lasso’s husky, soaring vocals suited his new punchier pop-rock tunes as well as Dewa 19’s downbeat rock, resulting in a slew of popular hits that turned him into a formidable star in his own right.
