Dave McMurray is a Detroit-based saxophonist, composer, arranger, and bandleader. His keen melodic sensibility and rich, earthy tone saturate his work in jazz, rock, R&B, funk, and pop. McMurray has amassed hundreds of credits as a sideman and is a charting solo artist. His 1995 Warner Bros. debut was The Dave McMurray Show. He scored a radio hit with "My Brother & Me" from 1999's Peace of Mind. After 2003's acclaimed Nu-Life Stories, McMurray served as musical director for Kem. He released the acclaimed Music Is Life in 2018 on Blue Note. On 2021's Grateful Deadication, he led a Detroit-based band on a funky jazz adventure interpreting the music of the Grateful Dead. . He played with Don Was and the Pan Detroit Ensemble on 2025's Groove in the Face of Adversity, and that November he released the Blue Note set I LOVE Life even when I'm hurting.
