Dizzy Wrightâs stoner-friendly raps made him a candidate for breakout success in the early 2010s, but he detoured from the mainstream to cater to his niche fanbase as an independent artist.
âą Born in Flint, Michigan, Wright moved to Las Vegas when he was four. He started rapping when he was eightâhis mom wrote his rhymes.
âą Layzie Bone of the seminal Ohio rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony is Dizzyâs uncle. He played a mentor-type role in Dizzyâs childhood.
âą Instead of going with a major label, Wright signed with rapper Hopsinâs independent Funk Volume imprint in 2012 and released his debut album, SmokeOut Conversations, that same year.
âą In 2013, he made XXLâs Freshman Class list, alongside Chief Keef, Action Bronson, Ab-Soul, and others.
âą He continued his evolution with 2015âs The Growing Process, which featured Big K.R.I.T., Tech N9ne, Krayzie Bone, and Layzie Bone. The album made the Top 5 of Billboardâs Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
âą In 2020, Wright teamed up with frequent collaborator Demrick for the Blaze With Us 2 sequel. Months later, he returned with the solo project My Hustle Unmatched.
