A classic three-man power pop band with an extra emphasis on melody, Fastball had a banner year in 1998 with a trio of modern rock radio hits, led by "The Way," a jauntily melancholy tale of senior citizens gone wild. While the act led by the Elvis Costello-esque vocals of Tony Scalzo never quite ascended again to that late-'90s peak, the Austin, Texas, band created decades of consistently compelling rock music.
