This Sheffield, England-based synth-rock trio comprised Ben Rymer (b. Hunters Bar, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England), Mark Hudson (b. Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England; vocals) and Ross Orton (b. Southey Green, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England), and was apparently conceived after initial attempts at making dance music ended in disaster. Rather, the trio created rock paeans to superbikes, anorexic robots and the joys of home computers. The debut 7-inch, ‘Teenage Daughter’, meanwhile, simply repeated the track title over dirty electronic riffs. On the basis of their early singles, the trio was notably invited to remix Pulp’s ‘Sunrise’ by Jarvis Cocker and was subsequently adopted as tour support. The band apparently appeared on stage wielding light sabres and generally not taken things seriously, a trait the trio claimed they developed in response to the grimness of life in their home town. The Fat Truckers also appeared on City Rockers’ Futurism collection, Sonic Mook’s Future Rock & Roll Volumes 1 + 2 compilations, and International Deejay Gigolo’s Gigolo Vol. 6. After releasing The First Fat Truckers Album Is For Sale via their Roadtrain Recordings label in 2003, the band began working on a follow-up for International Deejay Gigolo, but disbanded before anything too concrete had been achieved. Orton has also recorded as Supafix (with Winston Hazel), releasing music via Earth Records, the label run by DJ Parrot from the All Seeing I.
