Sobre Javed Bashir
Lahore-born powerhouse vocalist Javed Bashir showcases a range like few others. Taking on Sufi, Bollywood songs and fusion with rock bands, his mastery of classical and folk traditions transcends borders and generations of music.
Trained in the Patiala gharana under his father, Ustad Bashir Ahmed Khan, Bashir first gained recognition as vocalist for the Mekaal Hasan Band, where he worked with the pioneering guitarist-composer to fuse Sufi poetry, ragas and rock instrumentation together. Songs such as “Chal Bulleya” from their 2009 album Saptak made him a standout voice in fusion music.
As a solo artist, Bashir has a versatility that has taken him to Coke Studio Pakistan—most notably spawning “Charkha” in 2024, highlighting his ability to blend deep classical training with raw emotional power. In Bollywood, his distinctive vocals have livened up songs such as “O Rangrez” and “Mera Yaar” (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag) and “Aaj Ibaadat” from Bajirao Mastani.
Recognising his ability to bring the worlds of Qawwali, classical, fusion and film music together, Bashir was bestowed the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) civilian award in Pakistan in 2024.
