John Michael Zov, making his home in Nashville, TN, released his third album in 1998. The album, Shake the Blues, is a unique combination of blues, jazz, swing, and boogie-woogie. John Michael Zov produced the album at The Castle in Franklin, TN. The words and music were written by Zov, who performed on a grand piano and B-3. His vocals and musicianship have been described by many journalist as "first rate." On the album, Zov was joined in his mission by Kip Paxton on bass and John Peck on drums. John Michael Zov released his second album in 1997, entitled One Night Swing. He was joined in this project by Bob Bretz on guitar, Mark Perna on bass, Dave Walters on drums, and special guest, Kenny Blake, on saxophone. One Night Swing was produced at Gamut Studios in Latrube, PA. An album that contained primarily cover tunes, it received favorable reviews while giving Zov an outlet to display his musical abilities with songs that were familiar. In 1980, Epcot Center in Orlando, FL, installed a 14-minute film about Canada in the Canadian Pavilion. The film ended with a duet entitled "Canada You're a Lifetime Journey for the Traveler," in which Zov sang. Some venues that Zov has played are the Frontier Hotel in Vegas, Harrah's Tahoe, Sahara Tahoe, LaCosta Country Club, and the top jazz clubs in Nashville. Zov's roots are in Aliquippa, PA, where he attended the same high school as Henry Mancini, Mike Ditka, and "Pistol" Pete Maravich. He cherishes his ancestry which is Italian-Hungarian. One of his songs from the album Shake the Blues, "Back to LA," was put on a compilation CD with Quincy Jones, Fourplay, Joe Sample, Boney James, and several others. It received airplay on over 500 jazz radio stations. Zov has a semi-classical piece entitled "Hey Vincent" on a compilation CD along with Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, among others, and was well-received at over 500 jazz radio stations. Zov always looked for new sounds to add to his self-produced repertoire, aiming to please the ever-changing taste of music lovers internationally. ~ Larry Belanger
