By design, Lord Huron has a sound as big as the great outdoorsâthe bandâs music brings to mind desert sunsets, snow-capped mountains, and two-lane roads cutting through the Midwestern plains. Led by Michigan native Ben Schneider, the Los Angeles-based project emerged on record in 2010, just after Fleet Foxes had rekindled the indie world's interest in harmony-drenched folk-rock. Alongside peers like Local Natives, Lord Huron took the sceneâs core elementsâlayered voices, expansive reverb, guitar jangles, pastoral lyricsâand added memorable shout-along choruses on tracks like 2015âs triumphant âMeet Me in the Woods.â While early Lord Huron EPs sounded raw and focused on loops, thanks to Schneiderâs homemade recording technique, the project grew more polished without losing its rustic charm when he assembled a full band for 2012âs Lonesome Dreams. The outfitâs cinematic qualities werenât lost on music supervisors, eitherâits songs have been featured in several movies and shows, with âThe Night We Metâ charting globally after soundtracking a key scene of teen drama 13 Reasons Why. Still, Lord Huronâs earthy tone remains its most indelible hallmarkâthrough the woozy psychedelia of 2018âs Vide Noir and lush, open-road fantasias of 2022âs Long Lost. Meanwhile, the band, bolstered by Schneiderâs training as a visual artist, has sunk its teeth deeper into the world of film, creating the eerie, gossamer score for the 2023 indie flick The Starling Girl.
