Equally well known for his solo work and the material he recorded with his former wife Chris, Pete Coe was a part-time folk club organizer before becoming a professional musician in 1971. Pete and Chris also played with Muckram Wakes. The pair joined forces with Linda and Ian Wordsworth to form the New Victory Band in 1978, releasing ONE MORE DANCE & THEN for Topic Records. Following the couple’s split in the early-'80s, Pete released his solo debut, 1985’s IT'S A MEAN OLD SCENE on his own Backshift label, and formed the group Red Shift, recording BACK IN THE RED, the first folk album to be funded by the Arts Council. Coe compositions have become modern folk standards: "Marching Down Through Rochester," "The Alimony Run," and "The Wizard Of Alderley Edge."
