Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza embodies the Nusantara identity. Despite arguably being the top name in modern Malaysian pop music today, Nurhaliza pays heed to the canon of folk songs and veteran stars. From 1997’s Cindai album to 2008’s Lentera Timur, her discography preserves traditional styles. She has brought joget to London’s Royal Albert Hall and bridged the Malaysia-Indo divide as a shared icon. The delicate-voiced singer took her pop philosophy to new heights on 2020 LP ManifestaSITI2020, where Nusantara greats like Saloma and Sudirman live on in her voice.
