A word frequently thrown around assessments of Spy's work is "disgusting" -- not necessarily objectionable content but certainly as abrasive and relentless as your typical hardcore punk act. This Bay Area band came to prominence at possibly the toughest time for a group of their persuasion: during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, when underground shows were at their lowest ebb. Nonetheless, EPs like Service Weapon (2020) and Habitual Offender (2021) sated fans until the band was able to perform, and 2023's breakneck album Satisfaction lived up to its name. Their next milestone was the 2025 EP Seen Enough, their first release on the hardcore label Closed Casket Activities.
