Chinese-Malaysian singer Gin Lee has risen up from singing competition shows including Sing! China, The Voice, and Super Idol, to become a Cantopop favorite and C-pop star. Following her 2019 electro-R&B album Ukiyo-e and a stellar collaboration with Jax Jones, Gin Lee has created a New Year playlist for Apple Music. “The Lunar New Year is my favorite holiday other than Christmas,” she tells Apple Music, “because it’s a rare moment to reunite with family and friends.” Though her family is less traditional than many others, she looks to the classics when it comes to holiday music. “New Year songs give out those festive vibes. For example, ‘Gongxi Gongxi’ (‘Congratulations and Happiness To You’) is my favorite—I put it on my playlist every year.” The tracks she has chosen are “all about happiness and a feeling of excitement,” she says. “I hope the songs bring joy to listeners like they do for me.” Its title is derived from her own Chinese stage name, Xing Ni, translating to a person of happiness or luck—which she hopes fans will relate to in the new year. Gin Lee’s New Year blessing is, “‘May you achieve all your heart desires.’ Isn’t it wonderful when all your wishes come true? So, this is my most sincere well-wish for everybody. Have a great one!”
