Daniel Barenboim has long distinguished himself as both a pianist and conductor, and while that dual career path is no longer so unique, few have matched his authority and depth. Since 1992 he’s served as music director of the Berlin State Opera and its orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin. Seated at the piano, he conducts Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas while simultaneously performing as soloist, and affirming his ability to masterfully tackle disparate demands at once.
