GoGo Penguin play jazz with the dynamics and spirit of electronic dance music. Their compositions replace raw improvisational fury with meticulous, ticking precision, drawing comparisons with Brian Eno and Massive Attack. Pianist Chris Illingworth, drummer Rob Turner and bassist Nick Blacka first got together in Manchester in 2012, releasing their debut album, Fanfares, that year. The sonic questing continued with 2014’s Mercury Prize-nominated V2.0, and a year later the band signed to Blue Note Records, a natural home for their thrilling three-way instrumental duels.
