Kris Kristofferson has been redefining country music since the early ‘70s. Born into a military family, the singer/songwriter established himself as a vital cog in the Nashville scene and found himself penning hits for Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Stevens, and Roger Miller. Along the way he also notched a No. 1 smash for his former belle, Janis Joplin. A debut solo album, Kristofferson, was released in 1970, although it was the following year's expansive The Silver Tongued Devil and I that finally saw the folksy vocalist respected as an artist in his own right.
