As a founding member of Moscow post-punk band Glintshake, Ekaterina Shilonosova is well versed in the artier side of rock—spitting out attitude over jagged guitars and funked-out rhythms, no wave attacks and rockabilly freak-outs. But on solo material under the name Kate NV, she indulges in a spacey sound with soft melodic textures—both in her own voice and her choice of retro electronic pop beats. Even so, playfully weird synth lines and offbeat arrangements show her experimental fervour is undimmed.
