The Nearness

Shuffling feet

And falling leaves

Venting all our secrets in an unfamiliar realm

It never moves

Like we expect

But it never goes so far as to be irretrievable

We hold back poems

With such longing hope

We lay out lips and leaden cedar lungs

Afraid that we might not survive
