Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Yeah
A thousand lives livin'
Uh
[Verse 2]
I grew up by the Great Western Highway, on the train line
I used to count the carriages of coal trains
Before I knew of Cannonball and Coltrane
I was playin' ball games
I'd go to sleep on Friday night, prayin' that it wouldn't rain
Dad built a B-ball hoop, then flew the coop
And us kids fought like troops and mom was the truth
I can't believe I threw my sister through the front door
I learned my lesson well before the triple-O called
And on the tape-deck, my brother had control
Gettin schooled by him proper in the cold
Wenty falls, flannelette and skateboard, foggy wet weekends
Funny how a four-liter cask makes you see friends
Parties at the park and drunk, taggin' state rail
Smoke through empty cans of coke when all else failed
Wilin' out on muck up day, turned it into muck up night
'Cause school didn't seem to care if we were fuck ups, right?
We were blowin' off steam, still not even eighteen
Floatin' somewhere down stream with a vague dream
If I could change an hour, maybe I'd move a minute
However many lives I've had, I'm only just beginning
[Verse 3]
I learnt a few things along the way
Try to keep 'em front and center with me every day
All the rest can and will fall away
Hold tight who you love and let the rest fall away
Let the rest fall away
[Verse 4]
Don't look back, hopin' for the same
'Cause from where I've come, I've changed
I don't know how to explain the hundred lives I've lived
And the thousand more I've craved
[Verse 5]
Yeah
Change with me
[Verse 6]
In my happy, younger days, I was a blank page in an empty book
I recall that naive innocence of childhood
Never really was wild, more a quiet one
Grew into a shy teen that didn't seem to smile much
Took off to South America at seventeen
Became a sudaco punk in skinny jeans
There, I learned what passion, love, and friendship really means
Came home to a cold, cold world that I couldn't really feel
I was not the same, disappeared into a purple haze
Of weed smoke and drum and bass, couldn't seem to find my place
Then I did at Uni, fightin' for causes
We reclaimed the streets and taunted police forces
Had my heart broken so bad, it left my head swimmin'
Proceeded to take it out on a few good women
Lived life fast and reckless, tryna outrun the sorrow
Like there was no tomorrow, but inside, so hollow
Then the mic came and saved me
Center stage became a place to vent my rage
Cyphered any time and went for days
Staved of cynicism with wit and rhythm
A hundred lives and counting, a hundred to be written
A hundred lives and counting, and a hundred to be written
[Verse 7]
I learnt a few things along the way
Try to keep 'em front and center with me every day
All the rest can and will fall away
Hold tight who you love and let the rest fall away
Let the rest fall away, ay
[Verse 8]
Don't look back, hopin' for the same
'Cause from where I've come, I've changed
I don't know how to explain the hundred lives I've lived
And the thousand more I've craved
Change with me
[Verse 9]
And we all said forever
And we all then drift apart
And I'm ready if this won't last
'Cause I'm rollin', not tied to the blocks
[Verse 10]
Don't look back, hopin' for the same
'Cause from where I've come, I've changed
How to explain the hundred lives I've lived
And the thousand more I've craved
A hundred thousand counting, counting
Hey, hey, hey, hey
[Verse 11]
Don't look back, hopin' for the same
'Cause from where I've come, I've changed
How to explain the hundred lives I've lived
And the thousand more I've craved
Change with me
