I would like to take a brief intermission from the project to shed some light on black excellence, you know

Ms. Lash, thank you so much for joining us today

It means the world, as always

If you can tell us a little bit about yourself and the obstacles you faced on your journey to get to where you are now

I think it'll be very inspirational for some of the supporters

If not all

So with that being said, the interlude is yours

Who is LaShyra Nolan, a.k.a. Lash

I am the daughter of Taisha Harps, who raised me as a single parent out of Compton, California

And I'm also a student at Harvard Medical School

And I'm the first black woman to become student body president at Harvard Medical School

I just do my best to defy all odds and to accomplish whatever dreams I have right in front of me

For anybody who has a dream and might not have that support or feel like they're not going to make it or feel like they aren't doing it

My favorite Maya Angelou quote is about success

And the quote goes, success is liking who you are, liking what you do, and liking how you do it

That quote really just changed my entire mindset because this becoming a doctor thing was tough

I failed chemistry exams, exams that were supposed to make or break me on this path

But it was like, no, I know who I am, I know who I'm becoming, and I know what I'm about

So we're just going to keep pushing through this

And I think that that kind of mentality is what allowed me to get to where I am today
