Lyrics

Snow White and Rose Red
Once upon a time, a poor widow lived in a little cottage that had a
Colorful garden in front of it. In the garden grew two rose
Trees. One had white roses and the other had red. The widow
Had two children. One was called Snow White and the other
Rose Red, and they were wonderful children. The two children
Loved each other. When Snow White said, "Will we ever
Leave each other?" Rose Red always answered, "No, never."
One evening they heard a knock on the door. Rose Red found a bear
Standing there. The bear began to speak. "Don't be afraid. I won't
Hurt you. I'm half frozen and only wish to warm myself a little."
"My poor bear," said the mother. "Lie down by the fire." So the
Children fetched a towel and rubbed him until he was dry. Then the
Beast growled quite happily and comfortably. After that, the bear was
Their friend. He came to visit every night. When spring came, the
Bear said, "Now I must go away. I must go to the woods
And protect my treasure from the wicked dwarfs. In
Winter they stay underground. Now when the sun has
Thawed and warmed the ground, they steal what they can."
Snow White was sad over their friend's departure. When she opened
The door for him, the bear caught a piece of his fur in the door
Knocker. Snow White thought she caught a sight of glittering
Gold beneath it. A short while after this, the mother sent the
Children into the woods to gather mushrooms. They came to a big
Tree that lay on the ground. When they got closer, they saw a
Dwarf with a beard a yard long. The end of the beard was jammed
Into the cleft of the tree. He glared at the girls and screamed
"What are you standing there for? Can't you come and help me?"
"What were you doing, little man?" asked Rose Red
"You silly girl," replied the dwarf. "I'm stuck."
The children tugged, but they couldn't get the beard out. "Don't get
Impatient," said Snow White, taking scissors out of her pocket and
Cutting off the end of his beard. As soon as the dwarf was free
He seized a bag full of gold that had been hidden and scampered off
Another day, Snow White and Rose Red went fishing. As they approached
The stream, they saw their old friend the dwarf again, being dragged
Into the water by a fish. The girls tried to untangle his beard
But they had no luck. Snow White had to use her scissors again
The dwarf was angry to have his beard cut once more. He grabbed a
Sack of pearls that lay among the
Rushes and disappeared behind a stone
The next day, the girls went to town. While walking, they
Saw a big bird on a rock not far from them. They ran to the
Rock and saw that the eagle had pounced on the dwarf and
Was about to carry him off. The good children wrestled the
Little dwarf away from the eagle. The dwarf was still nasty
To them, though. "You have torn my little coat to shreds."
The girls went into town. On their way home, they surprised the dwarf
Pouring out his precious stones in an open space. They stopped
To say hello. All of a sudden, they heard a growl, and a black
Bear trotted out of the woods. The dwarf jumped up in fright. "
Dear bear, spare me. I'll give you all my treasure. Spare my life
Eat these two wicked girls." But the bear killed the dwarf with
One blow from his giant paw. The girls had run away, but the bear
Called after them. "Snow White and Rose Red, don't be afraid."
They recognized his voice and stopped. When the bear was quite
Close to them, his skin fell off and revealed a beautiful man
Dressed in dazzling gold. "I am a king's son," he said. "I had
Been cursed by that horrid little dwarf." Snow White married him
And Rose Red married his brother, and they lived happily ever after
