Miley Cyrus
ATTENTION: MILEY LIVE
Albüm · Pop · 2022 · Columbia
Miley Cyrus embraces reinvention. Since launching her solo career in 2007, the Tennessee native has slipped in and out of numerous identities: power balladeer, ferocious '80s-style rocker, pop party girl, punk renegade, torch singer. Her first live album, ATTENTION: MILEY LIVE, is a fan-curated spotlight on these multiple Mileys that emphasizes her powerful vocals and magnetic live presence. The album's edgier experiments—the aggressive, rap/rock-influenced "(SMS) Bangerz" and the indie-electro of "Dooo It!"—are as engaging as more polished moments, like a smoldering, country-tinted version of "The Climb" and a bluesy cover of the Janis Joplin standard "Maybe.” After a properly seething take on "Jolene," a song originally written and performed by her godmother, Dolly Parton, Cyrus pauses to address the audience: "You never need to choose who you want to be—and you don't need to fit into any boundaries or into any boxes." Although Cyrus delivers this speech like a pep talk, ATTENTION: MILEY LIVE makes it clear she could just as easily be talking about herself.
