Roomful of Teeth
Rough Magic
Albüm · Classical · 2023 · New Amsterdam Records
The astoundingly virtuoso vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth here extend what the human voice is capable of with extraordinary results. Caroline Shaw’s The Isle, suffused with the spirit of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, forces us to rethink our attitude to harmony in wonderfully imaginative ways. A real tour de force. Peter S. Shin’s Bits torn from words is sensational in its creativity and ambition—the vocalization envelops and uplifts. William Brittelle’s Psychedelics, which opens the album, creates a mesmerizing musical universe while Eve Beglarian’s None More Than You blends very different vocal sounds and musical traditions to come up with a work of genuine originality.
