A pioneering Swedish death metal band whose heavy thrash and melodic power helped establish the Gothenburg sound, At the Gates issued four influential albums in the '90s, including the bona fide classics Terminal Spirit Disease and Slaughter of the Soul, before ceasing operations in 1996. The group re-formed in the 2010s and took home a Swedish Grammy for their acclaimed 2014 comeback LP At War with Reality, and remained at the fore of the melodic death metal scene with subsequent efforts like To Drink from the Night Itself (2018) and The Nightmare of Being (2021).
