Singer/composer Gajendra Verma has made a raft of viral songs from his warm, honest vocals and romantic stories, shining a light on Indian pop’s unique power of connection.
• Despite being a film composer, Verma didn’t receive formal music training. He credits his late father, Surender Verma—a renowned writer and poet—and his brother, Vikram Singh—a director, composer and producer actively involved in the artist’s career—for helping him develop his career.
• An aching ode to loneliness, 2008’s “Tune Mere Jaana” aka “Emptiness” was a viral hit that established him as one of the most poignant voices in Indian pop.
• A slew of soaring romantic melodies followed including “Tujse Door Jo Hota Hun”—a catchy companion piece to Durjoy Datta’s novel Hold My Hand—as well as enchanting guitar ballad “Tera Hi Rahun”, the beat-laden “Ik Kahani” and the endlessly catchy “Tera Ghata”.
• Verma has also written and performed Bollywood hits “Mann Mera” like (2013’s Table No. 21), and “Baarish” alongside Mohammed Irfan (2014’s Yaariyan).
• Verma sharpened his storytelling chops on his 2021 EP Summary, a series of five songs recounting a tender love story.
