Brother of songwriter Arthur, Irving Caesar was an accomplished lyricist for stage and films during the 1920s and '30s. While working for the Ford Motor Company, Caesar began writing lyrics for his own amusement. He collaborated with childhood friend George Gershwin on the hugely successful "Swanee," which would become one of Al Jolson's signature songs. Caesar wrote numerous songs for stage musicals with a succession of collaborators during the '20s, notably "I Love Her, She Loves Me" and "Tea For Two." He also wrote lyrics for several Hollywood movies, including "Animal Crackers In My Soup," famously sung by Shirley Temple in 1935's CURLY TOP.
