Singer-songwriter/producer YAØ is a wizard of understated melody. As a young artist—real name Ng Zhengyao—he started out posting pop covers online, and quickly found his own catchy alchemy of chill R&B, pop and hip-hop. His inspirations are everything and anything, whether it’s Japanese city pop (on 2019 EP Love & City Lights) or just day-to-day conversations. After realising during a stint in National Service that music was his vocation, YAØ has since continued to create for innovative beats and textures for a dynamic, feel-good sound that fizzes with ideas and is resolutely contemporary.
