Madrid-based singer/songwriter Antonio Vega enraptured audiences with densely poetic language, while his weary vocal presence suggested a kinship with fellow free spirit Scott Walker—wounded, vulnerable and romantic. First rising to fame with the punk band Nacha Pop, Vega went solo in the late '80s. He'd eventually help define the “Madrid Scene” of post-Franco cultural revitalization with his smoky blend of moody hard rock and stark folk balladry. Spanish rock lost one of its most expressive voices when Vega passed away in 2009.
