These English eccentrics use catchy art pop as an innocuous medium to entice us into their intriguingly weird world of triangles, literature, and Miley Cyrus. The latter was sampled in a track off the band's sophomore album, just one of many tricks alt-J have snuck in since the release of their 2012 debut, An Awesome Wave. Built on crisp polyrhythms and indie guitar rock, their textured sound integrates hypnotizing loops and elements of electronic, folk, and dub. It's all smoothed out with dreamy harmonies that make even the most abstract lyrics sound utterly profound.
