“‘Sugar in the Rain’ is a reminder that joy and hard seasons can live side by side,” NIDALA tells Apple Music. “When I unexpectedly became a caregiver, I lost part of myself to it.” The Djugun and Jabirr-Jabirr singer-songwriter found herself becoming her sister’s carer following a major accident in 2024, and throughout the many surgeries that followed. She struggled to balance her role as a caregiver with other aspects of her identity and life—and this track was inspired by the growth and self-reflection she found throughout that journey. “I wrote this song as a call home to myself,” she says. “Wherever you are in that in-between, I hope this song meets you there.”
