Elvin Jones drummed on some of jazz's most epic, genre-defining sessions. His versatile work on Coltrane's modal masterpiece A Love Supreme (“Pt. 1: Acknowledgment” is included here) gave it atmosphere and drive, while his work with Sonny Rollins (“Softly As In a Morning Sunrise”) and Freddie Hubbard (“Arietis”) showed off his virtuosic gift for staying in the pocket on pure hard-bop grooves.
