Formed in 1987, the New Zealand trio The Dead C provided a powerful counterpoint to the jangly pop and psych rock being produced by their peers. The trio's lo-fi, experimental style was a clattering, noisy, and bracing attack that attempted everything from primitive punk to drone to squealing electronica. And because everything they performed was improvisational, The Dead C have been able to release dozens of albums and singles along the way. As if that weren't enough, the members also busy themselves with their own indie labels and side projects like Gale and A Handful of Dust.
